Fashion Future Project
Final project since Term 3 - Term 4
Fashion Future Project is a module for 6 months long and we have to create our own brand with business plan.
This module includes gathering informations on primary research and secondary research to support the brand. Primary research is when information are gathered by myself through interviews or surveys or even focus groups. While secondary research is when google search or articles are needed to support the whole business plan.
In this case, this assignment was connected with the Guangzhou trip. We went to Guangzhou to find inspiration or materials for our specific brands but it has to be associated with sustainability.
However for my brand Weaved By Borneo, it is linked to my hometown, which is Borneo, Malaysia (Sarawak). My brand revolves around social enterprise and handwoven handbags. The element that makes my brand sustainable is that, these handwoven bags are customisable, renewable, and the most major part is that is it made out of shipping straps by a tribe in Borneo known as the Penan.
The Penans are the only tribe in Borneo that is on the verge of extinction due to the difficulties of adapting the modern lifestyle. The Penans do not have access to education, technology and food are scarce especially in the modern day rainforest. However, Penan Women Project is collaborating with my brand to raise global awareness in regards of this issue and to help these people fight against their extinction. Penan Women Project educates these Penan Women by using their skills in weaving to earn their only source of income for their own benefits which includes food, medicine, shelter and more.
